James O'Connor is an art dealer, raconteur and one-time thespian. He was a
long-time partner of the artist Edward Wolfe, RA. One of his portraits
stands behind the sitter.
Various works by Edward Wolfe, RA can be seen on the following

In his younger days
following a spate of acting in Dublin theatres, James O'Connor aspired to become a film star, and went to
Hollywood
immediately upon leaving university in Dublin, Ireland. After many years
of trying
his ambitions to make it in the film industry were to no avail, and
instead, became
caught up in the wheel of licentious degradation and corruption of which
Hollywood is
renowned. He later returned to England and eventually hitched up with the
artist Edward Wolfe, with whom he lived for a decade or more until
Wolfe's death in 1982. James O'Connor said to me that he was
drawn into the world of art as a dealer after inheriting the entire collection of Edward Wolfe's
paintings; before that he was little interested in it. Since
that time James O'Connor has arranged and held several exhibitions of Wolfe's
paintings in London and elsewhere in England.
