Picture title: Portrait of a red rose.

Oil on canvas. Size: 39-3/8" x 39-3/8" (100cm x
100cm)
Note: Oops! The photograph
has picked up light reflections on the
uneven surface of the canvas. The canvas was hessian and was the
coarsest cloth I have ever used; it was like sacking, which I
mounted on 1/2 inch strawboard, which is not made any more. The
picture was painted in Dόsseldorf, Germany. The photo fails to
show the depth of the vibrant red colour. The highlights of the petals was
in pure seductive scarlet lake, a colour that is no longer
manufactured, as it was made using mercury, which is now banned. The leaves and background were merely symbolic.
