Imagine walking along this tow path breathing in the scents all around - trees and grass
with Nature in her glory. I couldn't resist doing a study of this delightful scene. To
capture the moment I used pastels for speed with a loose style.
 

Autumnal Landscape

A beautiful autumnal landscape with fabulous rolling clouds. I could not resist painting
this scene in soft pastels, as it proves to be the right media for it. The painting is of
bijou size used as a preparation for doing another larger piece.
 

The Little Innocents

I like to capture moments like this - little children playing on the beach totally
absorbed in their world, seemingly unaware of anything other than the activity
at hand. It is always a fascinating and delightful chance to observe and paint.
 

Baby Ellie

This pastel baby portrait was painted from a photograph taken at approx two months old.
She has that surprised look which is rather endearing in babies of that age. I gave this to
the parents as a Christening present - they were delighted at receiving such an unusual
gift. A portrait unframed such as this would be around £60.00.
 

Asian Girl

I painted this for the 2005 Tsunami relief fund. The photo was supplied by friends
who knew many people in the areas affected by the disaster. Sadly they never found
out whether this child survived. I believe the photo was taken a few years back
when they were on vacation in the region. I was struck by the girls lovely profile &
wonderful glossy hair, as she is seen gazing into the light. In reality the image is
stronger more defined than this painting.
 

Stormy Sky Raging Sea

This seascape painted in pastel on paper was inspired from a photograph with some
creative input so that the feeling & movement of sea & sky has more impact than
the photo image. I found this scene fascinating & challenging to paint. It is tastefully
mounted & framed under glass - ready to hang - and will look quite lovely in any
room setting. The work was exhibited at 'Buckwell Visual Arts' Javea, Spain.

Vine Tomatoes

I purchased these scrumptious vine tomatoes in the local market specifically to do a
pastel painting in my studio. The icing on the cake was to have them in a salad that
night!! I chose to render the piece with a soft focus technique as I didn't want an
'in your face' image - the painting would look especially good on a kitchen wall.

This painting was inspired by a photo taken pre-wartime Britain. The children clearly
intent on looking at toys in the window, perhaps wishing they would get lucky for a present.

Pine Tree Spinney

Whilst living in Spain I used to see this lovely scene from my bedroom window each morning,
watching the small changes through the seasons. Pine trees never lose their spiky needles, so
the changes were mainly due to the light or heavy rain then the bark would become black as seen
here. I have sketched the view many times always hoping to see some wild-life lurking in that grass.
 

Winter Wonderland

Wonderful fresh clear and vibrant colour. This scene reminds me of long ago childhood
walks in woods such as this painting represents. The piece is more of a drawing done in the
finest of soft pastels on a blue tinted Ingres paper. I have exploited the use of complimentary
colour to give the painting an exciting contrast of tone values.

Good Looking

The subject is known to me so painting this portrait was not a challenge. He
sat for me for the initial 1/2 hour sketching - this helps to get the composition right,
then I took some reference photos to work from at my studios. The likeness is spot on
which pleases me. The high colouring & complimentary strong blue sweatshirt
conveys to the viewer that he is a sporty type of lad.

I was commissioned to paint this portrait in pastel as a wedding anniversary gift. Having
had the good fortune to attend the beautiful wedding last June I was able work from memory
as well as using reference photos provided. I then juxtaposed the photos to suit my composition.

Finale

The evocative world of ballet captures the essence of mood, beauty love and romance.
Figure studies such as this are always such a pleasure to paint. I have not wanted to
part with this work, even though it has been exhibited several times with much acclaim.
Worked in soft pastel the style used here is a combination of cross hatching with an
emphasis on drawing technique, capturing fluid movement and feeling being my main
objective for the outcome.

Yorkie, Porkie

I love this breed of dog. They are full of character and are fun companions.
This one has a cute irresistible smile and bright shiny eyes. The work is one
of three I have painted of the same dog over the years.

Doogle the black and white cat depicted here has a slightly mad compelling face full
of character. I took a digital image some while ago, and then the perfect opportunity to
paint him in soft pastels presented itself. An unusual present such as this would be a lovely
surprise for a special occasion. The cost would be around £80.00.

Pot in a Spanish Garden

This painting was the result of several sketches done in situ in a corner of my
garden in Spain. The light and heat being so intense makes working outside
difficult, so this was painted in my studio from the roughs.
 

Blue Bottles

This study was set up in my studio. All the items chosen were arranged
to compliment each other. So the blue of the bottles is picked up by the
 colourful fabric and the small geranium in a pot has a part to play also.
The light in my studio was sufficient to complete this study in a day.

Clementines in a Basket

I purchased these luscious fruits in a local Spanish market- my intention
was to eat them but couldn't resist the urge to paint them first. I have
a props basket for painting still life subjects and the basket was just
the thing to set the fruits in along with a white napkin and placing
one in the foreground completes this study in pastel.
